2015 - Best and worst draft picks of 2014
Co-host Chris Leach didn't hang around for long, so Commissioner Stubbs had to assemble a new podcast crew. He came up trumps, being joined by some of the LOC's finest, former Executive Director of the LOCCA Ollie Burdett and podcast favourite Viv Nathwani. This episode puts the spotlight on the best and worst (of which there were many) draft picks of 2014.

Bracketology: Greatest Game in LOC History (1st 64, part III)
(1) Gridiron Gang prevents the perfect season Vs. (25) Cutting it close IV
"Gridiron Gang prevents the perfect season" is of course the only loss by BN in their championship 2009 season. Sadly this was before records began so we have no details on the game, but from memory it was a good one, and it's such a pivotal game in history.
"Cutting it close IV" is one of the best rivalry games in the LOC, IKNAN v FF. It was week 1, neither coach wanted to lose. It also looked like neither wanted to win, until IKNAN opened a late lead. FF managed to just edge it on Monday night, 100-98.
Winner: Gridiron Gang prevents the perfect season
Reason: BN were really good that year. REALLY good.
"Holy Moly" was a game where no defense was played. BN & FF had a showdown in Week 2 2014, 142-131. It was close the whole game, with BN just edging it, what a game.
"Corona Bowl II" had a lot to it. BN attempting to remain the only champion, GG in the process of a monumental run, a Stubbs Bowl, it was a fairy tale game. BN had the early lead, but GG rapidly came back and won it 113-97.
Winner: Corona Bowl II
Reason: What a story, what a game
"175 Destruction" the name kinda says it all. TTU just destroyed FF 175-91. FF never came close to leading. That's the end of it.
"Cutting it close III" was also TTU, against BN. a mid season game that came down to 1.16 points. BN had a lead of less than a point for nearly all of the Monday night game, but TTU limped over the line right at the end.
Winner: 175 Destruction

"Nearly the tie II" didn't look like it would be. Between IKNAN & GG, GG jumped out to a huge lead. IKNAN fought their way back and took a 3 point lead. GG had a kicker to win it...that only got 2 points. IKNAN also started a bye kicker, and left an RB spot blank. Ouch, 88.40-87.34.
"Cutting it close II" was between ADRZ & TTY. It came down to 0.92 of a point. TTY was lagging behind all game, until they took a small lead, that ADRZ just about over took. 95.76-94.84.
Winner: Cutting it close II
Reason: Nearly the tie II shouldn't have been that close
"Does anyone want to win" was the lowest total points in a game on record. AS took on FF in a less than interesting 36-58 pee wee fantasy game.
"Corona Bowl I" is of course the 1st title game between BN & B. We don't have any record of the game, but a lot was on the line. BN ultimately won out, going 15-1 and the record for most wins in a season still stands.
Winner: Corona Bowl I
Reason: If you can't figure this one out, kindly resign from the league
"Corona Bowl V" was a demolition job. TTU & B, and TTU looked like they'd jump out to an early lead (after losing in the Corona Bowl the year before). B swiftly ended an thoughts of that, and proceeded to embarrass them 161-97, which is a record for points in the title game. It's also the only game B has ever beaten TTU.
"Tebow Time" was the first start by Tebow in the LOC (for B against TTU no less). Though Tebow worked his magic to win in real life, he came up short for B, who lost 100-115.TTU were losing big, but came back to get the W.
Winner: Corona Bowl V
Reason: It was a great title game
"Start how you wish to finish" was a blinder between TTY & TDT. 159-136 in favour of TTY, it was a huge opening week. TDT tried to stage a late comeback, but fell well short in the end.
"Corona Bowl III" was between then current champ GG & 1st Rookie Division rep in the Corona Bowl, TTY. They also became the 1st Rookie Division champion, in an impressive 140-91 game.
Winner: Start how you wish to finish
Reason: It was just a better quality game

Bracketology: Greatest Game in LOC History (1st 64, part 2)
(26) Cutting it Close V Vs. (42) Playoffs Baby!
“Cutting it Close V” was a good’un. TS were going one way (2-0) while B were heading another (0-2). It was tight, TS jumped ahead. B retook a narrow lead, only for TS to crawl to a W on Monday night 121.72 – 120.30.
“Playoffs Baby!” was the game where TTU broke the record for most playoff appearances (all time & in a row), against the team that held the record, GG. It was a good game too, very back and forth. But TTU’s quality came through.
Winner: Playoffs Baby!
Reason: Both were great games, but TTY’s achievement is tremendous
(23) The Rookie Has Landed Vs. (8) The Miracle
“The Rookie Has Landed” Was another historical game, it was the 1st time a team from the Rookie Division reached the Corona Bowl. TTY beat TTU 105-91 by staging a sustained comeback after TTU jumped out to a lead.
“The Miracle” is a great point in LOC history. Week 9 of 2010 was the 1st win of 7 of 8 in GG’s monumental run to the title. The game itself was a lower scorer against FF (76-61).
Winner: The Rookie Has Landed
Reason: GG’s run was the stuff dreams are made of, but the first game was not
(47) Missed it by that much Vs. (33) The Manning Effect
“Missed it by that much” was the 1st game of the 2014 season between GG and TTU. It was a low scorer (73-70) that TTU nearly blew at the end. But GG were the ones who really blew it, if they played any one of their bench players they would have won.
“The Manning Effect”was the 1st game of the 2013 season between B and ADRZ. Peyton Manning scored the highest point total by a player in LOC history (60). B could have won without him, in a 164-83 drubbing.
Winner: The Manning Effect
Reason: The highest scoring player in LOC history.
(11) Starting with a Bang Vs. (19) Even my backups nearly beat you
“Starting with a Bang” was the 1st game of 2011 between TTY and TS, all guns blazing, multiple league changes, and a last gasp lead change at the end. TS won 133-131.
“Even my backups nearly beat you” was a week 10 bout between B and BN. B won the game 179 – 117. But B’s bench also got 113 points! That’s probably the highest scoring total team in a week ever. B was actually behind in this game until Mike Vick got 57 points.
Winner: Even my backups nearly beat you
Reason: I mean, the Monday night comeback was just demoralizing
(54) BOOM! Vs. (36) Wembley Woes
“BOOM!” was TDT explosion in a 150-109 point victory. Considering all TDT had gone through that season (this game was week 8) they did a great job in this game.
“Wembley Woes” was a Wembley bowl took place between GG and ADRZ. Coach Stubbs was rubbing in how he had won after jumping out to a lead, only for ADRZ to crawl back and win it 124-118 with a career day by 37 year old TE Tony Gonzalez.
Winner: Wembley Woes
Reason: Everyone loves a Wembley Bowl. Plus this had a nice story behind it
(4) The Foundation of the 150 Club Vs. (43) 3rd Year Leap
“The Foundation of the 150 Club” was the first game (on record) where a team scored 150 points. B mauled GG in week 3 of 2010 to the tune of 152-91.
“3rd Year Leap” was the first playoff game in ADRZ history. ADRZ were steadily behind B, but managed to take the lead in the 9pm games, only to stop scoring. B won 138-109.
Winner: 3rd Year Leap
Reason: ADRZ gave it their all, but we all know how good B was that season
(31) Bad Coaching Vs. (20) Newbies Dual to the Death
“Bad Coaching” wasn’t a great game. G lost to TTY 91-69, but what was notable was GG scored 108 points...on their bench. In their defence, 2 QBs combined for 70 of these points.
“Newbies Dual to the Death” was between the new kids, TDT and TS. Both experienced growing pains that season, but that didn’t prevent a good game. It was a low scoring 87-85 game that went right to the end on Monday night (to TS).
Winner: Bad Coaching
Reason: 108 points, jeez. Nearly doubled the points of the starters.
(41) Stat Change-Gate Vs. (22) Tough Break
“Stat Change-Gate” is probably the biggest controversy in LOC history. A very close game between FF and BN, in which BN won 120-115....until Tuesday morning. The NFL reviewed a passing TD by BN QB Joe Flacco that was actually a running touchdown, ultimately making BN lose 115-114.
“Tough Break” was a game between IKNAN & ADRZ. To make playoffs, IKNAN needed to beat ADRZ & out score GG by 50 points if they won. IKNAN beat ADRZ 161-103...but GG won and scored 115. They missed out on playoffs by just 4 points.
Winner: Stat Change-Gate
Reason: That game was great alone, the controversy just adds to the drama.

Bracketology: Greatest Game in LOC History (1st 64, part 1)
For the offseason series this year, I thought I'd do
something a little fun. We've obviously been playing fantasy together for a
long time now. Six full seasons, 438 competitive games played in total, and a
lot of history made. The question this offseason series seeks to answer is, out
of every game played, competitive and non-competitive, what is the greatest
game in LOC history? I and the new Executive Director of the LOCCA put together
a shortlist of 64 games in a bracket, tournament style knockout, to determine
what the greatest game in history is. Today, we'll be looking at the first 8
match ups on the left side of the bracket.
(7) Got a Point? Vs. (30) Colin Kaepernick Who?
"Got a Point?" pitted B against AS. Both were struggling, AS hadn't won a game while B were 2-3. It was neck & neck. The game finished with a .38 point difference. AS won their first game of the season & their history.
"Colin Kaepernick Who?" was the debut game of Coach Simpson. In the same way as Kaepernick that season, Coach Simpson came in & led TS to the title game. The result was obviously a lot better for Coach Simpson.
Winner: Got a Point?
Reason: "Colin Kaepernick Who?" wasn't that interesting, just a key point in LOC history.
(49) Order is restored, Corona Bowl V Rematch Vs. (15) Corona Bowl II Rematch
"Order is restored" was the rematch between B & TTU after Coach Burdett embarrassed Coach Merritt in Corona Bowl V. It was the first time Coach Burdett had ever bested Coach Merritt. This rematch didn't come close to the excitement of the title game, but The Tuckfards did get back to winning ways.
"Corona Bowl II Rematch" was juicy. The 1st two champions of the LOC facing off for the first time since the title game. It was also another instalment of the Father Son Bowl. It was a close game for a long time, but BN pulled away in the Sunday night game & GG couldn't catch up.
Winner: Corona Bowl II Rematch
Reason: The Corona Bowl II match up was a close one
(27) Corona Bowl III Rematch Vs. (39) Wrong End of the Stick
"Corona Bowl III Rematch" featured TTY against GG. A gritty game, no team could take a decisive advantage. In the end, TTY would reaffirm their title victory & hold on to win.
"Wrong End of the Stick" was the 2nd game in a row ADRZ was close to winning, but came up short. ADRZ fell way behind, but rallied back to take the lead. They couldn't hang on though, and FF pipped them late in the Monday night game.
Winner: Wrong End of the Stick
Reason: It had drama, a story line, & was close to the end. What more do you want?
(44) Passing is Overrated Vs. (9) 2 in a Row
"Passing is Overrated" was the first playoff game between TTU & IKNAN in 2013, aka the game where Jamaal Charles got 50 points (hence the name). TTU dropped 160 points on IKNAN & rolled to the title game.
"2 in a row" was between IKNAN & GG in 2010. It was the 1st playoff game, but the second game in a row where they played each other. GG won, but it wasn't a great game (IKNAN only got 57 points).
Winner: Passing is overrated
Reason: Come on.
(28) Down to the wire Vs. (18) The Meltdown
"Down to the wire" was a close one between TDT & ADRZ. Close doesn't do it justice, it was tight the whole game & the winner only won by 1.92 points. What made this so interesting? ADRZ had a player in the Monday night game, but came up just short.
"The Meltdown" was the 1st game in a string of 5 games where ADRZ lost. They were in prime position for a playoff spot in their first season. They had a nice 96 point outing, but were 21 points short of TS.
Winner: Down to the wire
Reason: This was a thrilling game...for those not involved.
(55) Stopping the Rot Vs. (21) Chiquitos
"Stopping the Rot" marked the game where FF finally got a win in a close game against JS. It finished 93-91 & was back and forth all game, but Coach Leach edged it out.
"Chiquitos" was a great game. GG faced off against B, both in a race for a wildcard spot. As the name suggests, a lot of the LOC was at Chiquitos for Coach Stubbs' 18th. He was getting teased all night (despite it being a tight game) but managed to win it 115-109.
Winner: Chiquitos
Reason: Its got everything, excitement, lead changes, and Mexican food
(32) Corona Bowl IV Vs. (5) Corona Bowl I Rematch
"Corona Bowl IV" had a great plot to it. A Rookie fantasy coach without a year under his belt, going against the LOC's winningest team (& also most hated). It was close early on, but TS won outright (and everyone thanked them for it).
"Corona Bowl I Rematch" was the first rematch of a title game between BN and B. It was an ok game, fairly close in the season opener, but nothing special.
Winner: Corona Bowl IV
Reason: Nothing beats the magic of a Corona Bowl
(12) Cutting it close Vs. (53) The Underdog
"Cutting it Close" was the first of many close games. B took on TTY in the 2nd game of the season & it was a good one. 132-129 to TTY in the end, Coach Burdett was trying to defend a lead but Coach Barnes lead a long sustained come back to steal it.
"The Underdog" had a lot to it. GG struggling for a 3rd straight season, TDT looking like the champions through just 4 weeks. It looked like Coach Nathwani would win, but in true GG style they lead a comeback capped off on Monday night.
Winner: The Underdog
Reason: This was the toughest yet. The thing that swayed it was the story line behind "The Underdog"

Power Rankings: Offseason
Ahh I just love this time of year, don't you? It's like the calm before the storm. At the moment, even the most die hard among us are only doing a bit of fantasy prep here and there, before the inevitable hours of work some of us will put in. To get you in the mood, here's the first official (very early) power rankings for 2015.
Power Rankings
1. The Tuckfards, 54-37: The success this coach has had is just staggering. Much like Frank Gore, everyone has been expecting this team to fall off a cliff at some point, but every year they silence the critics. Could this be the year The Tuckfards have a down season? Quite possibly. But going off of recent history, it's highly unlikely.
2. Tom's Tyrants, 51-38: Lets just take a second to congratulate Coach Barnes on winning the Stubbs Trophy for a second time, great achievement. Since this coach has come onto the scene, he's been making a lot of noise. Apart from one slight blip in 2013, they've been formidable, and only a lack of drive after winning the title can slow that down (but some how, I don't think that will happen).
3. Bear Necessities, 50-39: I promise I'm not doing this by win total. Despite having a few average seasons until last year, Coach D. Stubbs is still 3rd in all time wins. That's no joke. Injuries derailed a few promising seasons, but last year they managed to stay healthy. If they can stay healthy again, I have no doubt this team will be in contention.
4. Burdettinators, 48-40: Last year was probably a disappointment for this team in the grand scheme of things. They had a Titan of a roster, yet failed to make playoffs. 8-6 is very good in the LOC, and let's not forget Coach Burdett is only 1 year removed from a Corona Bowl win. But we know all too well what most of this teams history looks like. Still, a very good coach should always have the edge.
5. The Dream Team, 30-29: We were ready to crown this team champion after Week 1 last year, and for a long time nothing changed. Down the line, cracks started to appear, and they looked like a different team by the end of it. Coach Nathwani has had a roller coaster of a career (see win/loss), but they have a knack for flashy rosters.
6. Gridiron Gang, 42-46-1: Another bad season would have cast a lot of doubt on this coaches legacy. Coach N. Stubbs managed to (finally) right the ship, and put together a very good season in which they were so close to making playoffs. They need to buckle down and make sure the ship doesn't stray off course again, but this coaches knowledge is undeniable.
7.Forge Flyers, 40-45: Well, we've seen bad seasons, but Coach Leach in 2014 was something else...but it's behind them now. Flying the flag of James Milner, a clean slate will do this team wonders, and the coach should be able to deliver at minimum a respectable season. He is the most underrated coach in the LOC after all.
8. ADRZ, 24-33: Coach Wells is only one year removed from the playoffs, and 2014 wasn't a disaster. Don't let the win loss record deceive you, their first 2 years were very much learning years, and they've made strides the last two seasons. Don't be surprised if everything falls into place this year.
9. IKNAN, 38-34: Coach Sherwood definitely has his own unique way of running a team, but no one can deny it has brought him success. Still, one has to wonder how much more success they could have had if they paid a little more attention. With their new role as Team Ambassador, maybe their attention level will raise just enough to really give them a shot in 2015.
10. The Romosexuals, 12-16-1: It's great to have a coach un-retire and return to the league, we're all happy to have Coach Nunn back. He's got a bit of a head start having coached in the league for 2 seasons (and even earning a playoff berth in Year 1). This year will likely be a learning year, but they've got a great shot to make waves in their 1st season since 2010.
11. Patistan, 0-0: You may be thinking "this coach isn't 0-0". Technically, you'd be right, but Coach Allen's 2014 is officially owned by Jeff's Seals. So luckily for them, they don't have the stain of that learning year, and should be a lot more prepared for year 2. They had a very nice few weeks near the end of the season, so don't be surprised if they can build on that.
12. Jeff's Seals, 2-12: The opposite can be said about Coach Fisher...they have the stain, and did they learn much? Only time will tell. Expect them to adopt a coaching style similar to that of IKNAN's, but coach Sherwood has shown there is nothing wrong with that. This team is by far the biggest enigma of all, so it's going to be interesting to see what they do.

Tom's Takeaways: Top 100 Power Rankings
Based on a mock draft completed from NFL.com’s Top 100 rated fantasy players, drafted in our draft order. Rosters are displayed in the order they were drafted.
12. BN
A. Brown, D. Bryant, A. Luck, B. Cooks, P. Manning, G. Olsen, L. Fitzgerald, M. Bryant
Fun fact: failing to draft a running back with your first 8 draft picks will leave you with a rather large hole in your team. If only our league employed the rarely seen RB/QB roster spot, that would bump this team up the rankings. Shame, because the receiving corps is next level stuff.
11. B
L. McCoy, O. Beckham, C. Hyde, J. Stewart, I. Crowell, V. Jackson, B. LaFell, D. Martin
Some very solid starters here (did anyone mention we weren’t doing keepers this year?) but, QB and TE remains empty and, with 12 QBs already taken, the weekly matchup based starter is looming. Nevertheless, McCoy and Beckham are going to win you some games by themselves.
10. IKNAN
R. Gronkowski, J. Jones, M. Gordon, T. Coleman, G. Bernard, D. Brees, T. Romo, J. Randle
A roster that looks more complete than it is, still lacking a starting wide receiver and doubling down on rookie runners. The two QB strategy being deployed again here, better be one heck of a bye week. The reason they are above B? Gronk.
9. TDT
C.J. Anderson, C. Johnson, T. Gurley, T.J. Yeldon, R. Jennings, C.J. Spiller, A. Robinson, B. Roethlisberger
A solid but decidedly average roster so far, relying on Megatron regaining some of his dominance from a couple of seasons ago. Again, lots of faith placed in rookie runners, but some solid backups waiting in the wings.
8. TTY
J. Hill, D. Thomas, J. Forsett, F. Gore, J. Maclin, A. Johnson, J. Landry, M. Ryan
Very similar to TDT in that only Thomas stands out as a true game changer, other than that another fairly mediocre roster. Jumps ahead of TDT by avoiding the high risk rookies however.
In case you hadn’t noticed: teams 8-12 in the power rankings? Why they would be teams 8-12 in the draft order. Hmmmmmmmm.
7. JS
A. Peterson, M. Ingram, L. Miller, A. Ellington, D. Jackson, M. Floyd, A. Abdullah, M. Colston, M. Wallace
Very solid starting roster, with a fearsome stable of runners and arguably the best depth league-wide at this stage. Another team waiting on both a QB and a TE, similarly to B, which could hold back an otherwise talented roster.
6. ADRZ
L. Bell, M. Evans, E. Sanders, A. Cooper, J. Graham, C. Ivory, S. Smith, P. Rivers, R. Tannehill
Our first team with 7 starters in place! And also the start of an interesting segment in the power rankings where very solid rosters are being dragged down by the RB2, Chris Ivory please step forward. When Bell returns from suspension, this will be a tough group to face.

E. Lacy, A. Jeffery, D. Hopkins, J. Edelman, R. Wilson, C. Ivory, M. Bennett, R. White

Kicking off the top 3 and would be higher if most of the RBs names didn’t start with a big ‘IR’. High octane receiving corps and once again they just couldn’t resist the allure of Tom Terrific. Whilst a suspension would hurt them, I wouldn’t fancy facing this team in week 6.

M. Lynch, J. Nelson, K. Benjamin, L. Murray, L. Blount, E. Decker, A. Gates, B. Sankey
Early contender for the prestigious title of ‘Most Improved’ here, a solid set of starters and decent depth options on the bench. This team is a QB away from being a powerhouse, but they are going to have to find a gem late in the draft or the waivers beckon.

M. Forte, D. Murray, A. Morris, K. Allen, B. Marshall, T. Kelce, C. Newton, T. Mason
Easy choice for the number 1 spot, boasting the most complete starting roster in the league at this stage, fuelled by a dominating set of RBs. The rest of the draft remains for some high (well, higher than Tre Mason) ceiling players, whilst leaving them in the best position to make a run at a top Defence.

A. Brown, D. Bryant, A. Luck, B. Cooks, P. Manning, G. Olsen, L. Fitzgerald, M. Bryant
Fun fact: failing to draft a running back with your first 8 draft picks will leave you with a rather large hole in your team. If only our league employed the rarely seen RB/QB roster spot, that would bump this team up the rankings. Shame, because the receiving corps is next level stuff.
11. B
L. McCoy, O. Beckham, C. Hyde, J. Stewart, I. Crowell, V. Jackson, B. LaFell, D. Martin
Some very solid starters here (did anyone mention we weren’t doing keepers this year?) but, QB and TE remains empty and, with 12 QBs already taken, the weekly matchup based starter is looming. Nevertheless, McCoy and Beckham are going to win you some games by themselves.
10. IKNAN
R. Gronkowski, J. Jones, M. Gordon, T. Coleman, G. Bernard, D. Brees, T. Romo, J. Randle
A roster that looks more complete than it is, still lacking a starting wide receiver and doubling down on rookie runners. The two QB strategy being deployed again here, better be one heck of a bye week. The reason they are above B? Gronk.

C.J. Anderson, C. Johnson, T. Gurley, T.J. Yeldon, R. Jennings, C.J. Spiller, A. Robinson, B. Roethlisberger
A solid but decidedly average roster so far, relying on Megatron regaining some of his dominance from a couple of seasons ago. Again, lots of faith placed in rookie runners, but some solid backups waiting in the wings.

Very similar to TDT in that only Thomas stands out as a true game changer, other than that another fairly mediocre roster. Jumps ahead of TDT by avoiding the high risk rookies however.

Very solid starting roster, with a fearsome stable of runners and arguably the best depth league-wide at this stage. Another team waiting on both a QB and a TE, similarly to B, which could hold back an otherwise talented roster.
