Greatest Draft Pick Of All Time (1st round part 1)

The offseason series is back again, and this time it’s to determine the greatest draft pick in LOC history. Now, there are a lot of factors affecting this, such as what round they were taken, knowledge and skill of the drafter, did they stay on the team, were they injured, and so many more. All will be taken into account to determine the best draft pick of all time. The seeding was created using a random number generator.

1st round

Mike Wallace 2010 (4) v Dez Bryant 2012 (22)
Bear Necessities took Mike Wallace in the 7th round in 2010, and he delivered with 1257 yards and 10 TDs (185pts). That’s not bad, but Dez Bryant fared better in 2012, putting up 1382 yards and 12 TDs (210pts), though he did require more investment being the 37th pick in 2012 by Burdettinators.

Winner: Mike Wallace
Reason: Better value, and he helped Bear Necessities to the Corona Bowl

Demaryius Thomas 2012 (21) v LeSean McCoy 2010 (2)
Demaryius Thomas burst onto the season in 2012, putting up a whopping 1434 yards and 10 TDs (203pts) in his first season with Peyton Manning. Not bad for the 4th round pick Tom’s Tyrants used to get him. In old school Gridiron Gang style, they took a punt on an unproven sophomore in the 2010 draft. LeSean McCoy, drafted in the 5th, put up 1572 total yards and 9 TDs (211pts) in his 2nd season, helping Gridiron Gang bring home the Stubbs trophy.

Winner: LeSean McCoy
Reason: A close one, but the more unproven player in a lower round sneaks it

A.J Green 2011 (10) v Reggie Wayne 2012 (26)
The rookie A.J Green fell all the way to the 9th round in the 2011 draft. Gridiron Gang were glad to take him, as he went onto record 1057 yards and 7 TDs (147pts). The aging Reggie Wayne fared better however. In his first season with Andrew Luck, he posted 1355 yards and 5 TDs (165pts). Not bad for the old man, especially considering IKNAN snapped him up in the 6th round.

Winner: Reggie Wayne
Reason: Taking a risk on an older player can backfire, but IKNAN nailed it

Reggie Bush 2011 (16) v Allen Robinson 2015 (57)
In a new lead back role for the Miami Dolphins, Reggie Bush posted a respectable 1382 yards and 7 TDs (180pts) in 2011. IKNAN grabbed him in the 4th round, so the pick panned out well. Not as well as Allen Robinson however, who The Tuckfards selected in the 6th round of the 2015 draft. He went onto post 1400 yards and a massive 14 TDs (224pts).

Winner: Allen Robinson
Reason: A tonne of points for a mid-rounder

Jeremy Hill 2014 (49) v Golden Tate 2014 (39)
Jeremy Hills’ role was unclear entering the 2014 season as he was behind Giovani Bernard. These concerns hammered his draft stock, as he almost went undrafted before being snapped up in the 15th round by ADRZ. He proved the doubters wrong, going onto get 1339 yards and 9 TDs (187pts). Golden Tate was all too familiar with that as well, playing behind Calvin Johnson. A few injuries gave him the looks he needed though, and the Burdettinators were rewarded with 1331 yards and 4 TDs (157 points) for a 5th round pick.

Winner: Jeremy Hill
Reason: Incredible value

Brandon Marshall 2011 (7) v DeAndre Hopkins 2014 (48)
Brandon Marshall seemed to find a home in South Beach in 2011, posting 1214 yards and 6 TDs (158pts) for Burdettinators. That’s not bad value for a 4th round pick. DeAndre Hopkins fared just as well in 2014 for Forge Flyers, recording 1210 yards and 6 TDs (158pts), except Coach Leach nabbed him for a mere 15th rounder.

Winner: DeAndre Hopkins
Reason: Same performance, much better price

Marshawn Lynch 2012 (23) v Todd Gurley 2015 (52)
Marshawn Lynch kind of flew under the radar in the 2012 LOC draft. After having a very good 2011, he slipped all the way into ADRZ’s lap in the 5th round. He went on to have a fantastic season, posting a fabulous 1786 yards and 12 TDs (250pts). ADRZ seems to have a knack for picking RBs, as they took Todd Gurley in the 4th in 2015, a risk coming off of ACL surgery, and despite missing the first few games of the season still posted 1294 yards and 10 TDs (189pts), helping them onto a Corona Bowl victory.

Winner: Marshawn Lynch
Reason: It’s close, but Lynch was a monster for a 5th round pick

Larry Fitzgerald 2015 (61) v Larry Fitzgerald 2010 (1)
The Fitzgerald off! He went into the wilderness for a few years, but he had a renaissance year in 2015, posting 1215 yards and 9 TDs (175pts) for his new team The Romosexuals, all for a meagre 10th round pick. In 2010 he was squarely IKNAN’s guy (as he has been for most years), generating 1137 yards and 6 TDs (149pts) for a 3rd round pick.

Winner: Larry Fitzgerald (2015)
Reason: Despite his loyalty to IKNAN, his finest season came with The Romosexuals
